This time last year was a piece of cake to whip up a superlative laden blog on the year that was. This year is different. The fatigue has set in where we all just want to get on with running our businesses without the goal posts moving and with any sliver of clarity on what is around the corner.
In desperately trying to dodge all of the COVID buzz words that make my head hurt I was in search of some sort of metaphorical comparison for the world we find ourselves trying to prevail in.
In 1865, 18 years before our company started, Lewis Carroll wrote Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. While I do not know the book or the adaptations of it intimately, I am starting to wonder if I will one day wake up from this mad tea party. In the book, the Mad Hatter drives Alice crazy with his unanswerable riddles and reciting nonsensical poetry and while a bit of a tenuous stretch, I feel like that it what is happening to us.
We are confronted with so many questions we cannot answer and presented with information that regularly changes or worse, contradicts. Infographics we cannot decipher and rules we struggle to interpret – all the while trying to run our businesses, market our goods, deliver our service.
The craziness of the tea party eventually drove Alice away and it is heartening to see none of our customers following suit. Well done on sifting through the tea leaves. I wish I could say that 2022 is going to be a piece of cake in comparison, but somehow I doubt it.
Thank you all for prevailing along with us and thank you for your ongoing support. I hope you get to catch your breath with friends and whanau over the festive period so you can come back with us and do it all again next year.
Meri Kirihimete to you and your resilient teams.
