Rewind to Christmas 2019 where my beautiful and resourceful wife surprised me (we don’t normally do gifts for each other) with tickets to attend the USPGA golf championship in San Francisco in May this year. We were to travel with another couple and end our trip with 4 nights at a beach resort in Cabo San Lucas Mexico. Well Covid well and truly put paid to those exciting plans and so as I write this blog, we are in September and I haven’t been on a plane at all this year and in fact have only managed one brief business road trip to Auckland.
As the saying goes “don’t leave home till you’ve seen the country” and so we have decided to see some of what our beautiful country has to offer. I have been lucky enough to live in various parts of our land which has enabled me to see a big slice of the beauty that NZ/Aotearoa has to offer. My wife on the other hand has only seen glimpses of the South Island, so we are off over Christmas on a camper van odyssey to explore as much of the South Island as we can fit in between 24th December and 3rd of Jan.
In sitting down and planning our road trip I have been amazed and excited about the extent of activities, sights and experiences that are available and so we are booked to pick up a camper van in Christchurch on the 24th and head north to Westport via the Lewis Pass.
We have a rough itinerary and can’t wait for our South Island adventure to begin. Who needs an overseas holiday when we have got so much on offer right here in our beautiful diverse country?
Updates on the Mills magical mystery tour of the South Island in first Fresh News of 2021. Until then stay safe, look after your loved ones and like us get out and see some more of our beautiful country.
