Compostable is Coming

In a year that seemed to be filled with hassles and frustration, we were pumped to be able to deliver a consistent and reliable Sinclair labelling programme, with no material disruptions.

The huge focus on delivering a high performing home compostable option continues and 2022 saw the successful stage one trialling of a completely new compostable label. 2023 will see a significant commercial ramp up of this programme, initially targeting Bay of Plenty, then moving across the country later in the year. The NZ government has announced new rules impacting domestic fruit labelling that comes into effect from 1 July 2023. This is an amendment to the Waste Minimisation Regulation and requires any fruit labels applied within NZ from this date to at least be produced from home compostable materials. The good news is that through our R&D programme and successful trials, we will have a high performing product to comply with these new regulations.

Shortly we will be sending out more details directly to packers and marketers about this. In the meantime, on behalf of Jenkins Freshpac Systems and Sinclair we thank you so much for your support this year. No doubt like many of us it has been a tough one and hopefully, you get to have a couple of days off over the Christmas break, spend time with loved ones, freshen up and go again 2023. Merry Christmas and have a happy New Year.
